Dress to Skirt

I’m here to admit two of my many faults:
1.       I buy ugly stuff….when its super cheap. I just can’t help it.
2.       My legs are longer then I realize…so I often buy dresses/pants/shorts/skirts that are too short. (especially if they are super cheap)
And there is my predicament. I have a couple not so cute, very cheap dresses, hanging in my closet from a while ago. Tags still on. They are too short.
But this year, I am trying to make the most of my wardrobe. (remember that my resolution is to not purchase clothes for the year!) Since spring break is in a week….now is when I would go clothes shopping. But not this year!! So I did something I’ve never done before! I cut up a dress….in order to make a skirt!
Here is the not-so-cute…way too short dress. (I’m not putting it on, because that would defeat the purpose of people not seeing me in short dresses lol)
Like I said, I just cant pass up a $0.97 price.
With one cut, and one stitch...I simply cut off part of the top, folded it over, and sewed it back together.  Nothing fancy! It has stretchy pieces on the sides, so I didn't even need to ad an elastic waist band!
I literally cut off about 2-3 inches from the top of the dress. Thats how short we were talking here! (whoops!) And there you have it! A somewhat cuter-not as short- skirt!

I think it looks great! I may have to try that sometime, I'm forever falling in love with dresses at Target that are way too short for me.

Oh how lovely...
I really admire your blog, I normally read it in my google reader but decided to come over today to see your new layout. *Like*

Also much admiration for posting as often as you do. (And having so much time to do stuff) I am at uni too and struggle to blog more frequently than every week. But then again my hobby does need sunlight to complete really.(Gardening: http://fromtheknightgarden.blogspot.com/)

Also how are you finding your year with out buying clothes as I am considering doing this for 6months (with a few exceptions, considering I will be graduating within this time!)

Excuse the essay... x

Soooo excited I found you through CRAFT link-up! Ohmygoooosh I love how you made this a skirt! I need to learn how to sew so I can do this with all my super cheapo, ill-fitting stuff! I have the same "OMG MUST BUY THIS!" addiction =)

Who could pass up the dress for 97 cents! I mean, you could buy it just for the fabric! You did a great job with your refashion, kudos!
